In the U.S., the court ruled that the government cannot force IT giant Microsoft to access its servers in other countries.
In a statement on Microsoft's website, it was stated that the US 2nd Court of Appeals overturned the Manhattan court's decision that in 2014, the Department of Justice could access servers in Ireland during an investigation into drug trafficking. The Court of Appeal ruled that Microsoft did not have to make its servers located in other countries available to the U.S. government. Microsoft Law Office Chief Brad Smith, who wrote the statement, said that they welcomed the decision as "the first step in protecting the privacy of cloud computing services".Smith said that the decision is of great importance in terms of ensuring the privacy rights of people in their own country, protected by law and ensuring that the legal protections in the world exist in the digital field.Smith thanked the technology and media companies that supported them, the Irish government and commercial groups during the litigation process. The Ministry of Justice has the right to appeal the decision by applying to the Constitutional Court.
